We’re only halfway through Season 4 of The Walking Dead, and we know that the hit AMC series will certainly continue into Season 5 next year and likely even beyond that, but that hasn’t stopped us from theorizing about how the series — based on Robert Kirkman’s comic book of the same name — will end. Here are a couple of theories as to how TWD might conclude below, but as this point everything is just speculation.
Rick Grimes Will Die
It there’s one motto for The Walking Dead it’s that old refrain that no one is safe. Robert has said several times that even the series’ protagonist Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) could die at any moment, but if the TWD mastermind decides to kill Rick off, we kind of hope he waits until the end of the series to do so. Just think about what a powerful send off that would be! If Rick dies sometime over the next few years, hopefully his children Carl and Judith will still be alive. Sure, Judith’s future doesn’t look too bright now, but we don’t think we’ve seen the last of that baby just yet. Rick’s death would be a devastating blow at any point during the series. Should Rick die, the blow would be softened so long as Carl and Judith live to see another day. Hopefully someone like Michonne (Danai Gurira) or Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) will be by their side until…
Someone Will Find a Zombie Cure!
In an ideal world, all the death and destruction we’ve witnessed over the past four plus seasons won’t be for naught and someone, somewhere in the world will find a way to reverse the zombie apocalypse — preferably before everyone dies. We know that in the comics Sgt. Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz), Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos), and Dr. Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt) meet up with Rick and some of his group at Hershel’s farm on their way to Washington D.C. Apparently Eugene said he was a scientist with the answer to what happened and they were heading to D.C. to connect with others in the know. In the comics, Rick’s group goes with them. It’s doubt a cure will be found that quickly, if at all, but at least the seeds have been planted. So far, the most of what we’ve seen (aside from the CDC storyline in Season 2) has been the group just trying to survive, not actively trying to stop this epidemic. If a cure is found, we don’t think it would be able to help people who have already turned, but hopefully it could save those who’d been bit. And though it would take time, walkers would eventually be in the minority if a cure was out there. Still it’s also possible we have no idea what we’re talking about…
Who Knows? Ask Robert Kirkman!
We can think up Walking Dead theories all day, everyday, but chances are none of them will hold a candle to what mastermind Robert Kirkman has in store for the series’ end. Plus, we still have at least another year and a half to go — anything can happen and no one knows how to tell this story better than Mr. Kirkman!
